Hybrid

Firstly, if you were sent here as an artist, please don't panic! I promise that Hybrid is exceedingly easy to draw. A website and HTML is much easier to update than PNGs or JPEGs every couple years, and it also lets me add more and more detail, as needed. To your left you will see various sections About Hybrid, but this page (the basics) may be all you need depending upon what you were commissioned for. Hybrid is based on a creature described by Edgar Allan Poe in his only novel, 'The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket'. The quote is thus:

"...and the carcass of a singular-looking land animal. It was three feet in length, and but six inches in height, with four very short legs, the feet armed with long claws of a brilliant scarlet, and resembling a coral in substance. The body was covered with a straght silky hair, perfectly white. The tail was peacked like that of a rat, and about a foot and a half long. The the head resembled that of a cat's, with the exception of the ears-these were flapped like the ears of a dog. The teeth were of the same brilliant scarlet as the claws."

Colors

These are her basic colors alongside their Hexcodes and RGB codes. Please please please approximate, have fun with the shades, whatever fits your style. If something is not noted, do what feels best for you (unless I have told you otherwise).

Intermediate colors, like her mouth, tongue, and gums can all be approximated. Feel free to make them darker/lighter red, black, or whatever works for the piece.

Basic Anatomy

As her name implies, Hybrid takes aspects of various other mammals. You are free to take aspects of these animals, or some others, so long as the more specific parts are kept (written below.) Her most commonly used three animal families I use for inspiration are small feliform mammals: Fossas and other Malagasy mongooses and civets (Eupleridae), true mongooses (Herpstidae), and civets, genets, and binturongs (Viverridae). However, aspects of hyenas, canfiform mustelids, and rodents are also acceptable.

Hybrid has a very lanky, flexible back. Her tail is bare, like a rat's. Roughly halfway up the tail brush-like fur sprouts from it. Think a bit like a Saluki dog. Her tail should be at least half her length. Her tail can be prehensile or not; regardless, it must be flowy.

Hybrid is semiplantigrade; generally, I draw her feral form as more digitigrade. She can lean back on her ankles and sit up upright. Five digits per paw with fully retractable claws. She is able to climb up/down trees (etc.) effortlessly. Her ankles can turn inward/outward to assist with climbing.

Her cheeks, chest, and shoulders have more dence, slightly longer fur than the rest of her body. Her ears are semi-flop, generally they always point forward. They should not touch her head.

Her most distinctive and asymmetrical feature is her overgrown canine fang on the left side. The rest of her fangs are normal size. Her tongue should be pointed or round, not forked.

Markings

Hybrid has one distinct marking, her eye streaks. These can be interpetted a number of ways; here are examples of the most commonly seen.
